In January, I have a few things coming up mostly related to skiing. The photography side is a bit quiet.
I'm continuing to work on my ski instructor certification. Currently, I have CSIA Level 2. I'm working on Level 3. The first step on the path to achieving my Level 3 is the Teaching Development module. From January 10-12, I will be at Marmot Basin in Jasper for this module. It's always nice to ski with some of the top instructors in the country (Level 4). In February, I will be taking the Ski Development module. It's another 3 day intensive course. I have not booked the exam yet as I have heard from several people that it is quite challenging. Fortunately, I have an excellent opportunity to practice at Sunridge. Every other week, I will be leading training sessions with the school day instructors who are interested. This will be a nice place to work on my teaching as it applies to adults and more experienced skiers.
Just before Christmas, I had an interesting evening where skiing and photography overlapped. I wasn't taking the photos and videos. But, it was fun to be a part of all the same. Check out this video. I'm the skier with a black jacket, blue glow stick on one arm, and tan pants with yellow glow stick.
Afterwards, it was nice to chat with the photographer a bit. She confirmed that there's no magic bullet and it just takes time. I've been happy to have a few more bookings for families and pets. I'd love to be able to show you the very cute 11 month old just before her first birthday. However, it's not good practice to share pictures of other people's children.
While pets are sometimes like people's children, Sora is no child at 19 years old and turning 20 soon! If her owner hadn't said so, I wouldn't have known she was quite so old.
I took these photos just yesterday evening. It doesn't look it but it was fairly dim. I had extra lights but the camera was still nearly maxed out. It's amazing how good the pictures look at such high ISO. The shot above is ISO 5000. The one below is an incredible ISO 32000. Lightroom's noise reduction is also extremely helpful. If you're interested, I've written a little bit on that topic in the past (link).
To finish up, I'm busy skiing these days and would be happy to have you join me at Sunridge any time!
