November Update

I'm a little delayed this time. It's been a busy week! Before I tell you about November, I want to share some of my favorite moments from October.

Starting the month with a bang, I had a great time as the official photographer for ASTech's Awards night on November 1. There was around 450 people in attendance. I was responsible for taking photos of the opening speeches and all the award winners in a big group as well as individually at the photobooth. After the awards, people were free to mingle and network. Many of them came straight to me for photos! At the end of the night, I had around 300 shots between the speeches and photobooth. I'm still not sure I want to accept wedding bookings. But, I would happily do another event like that.

As promised last month, I am proud to share the latest additions to my portfolio. To say our trip to Canmore and the helicopter ride was good would be an understatement! We had perfect weather: no wind and perfectly clear! There was even a bit of new snow at the higher elevations. The horizontal panorama is a composite of several photos and measures 30"x60" at full size! The vertical shot is similar albeit a little smaller at "only" 30"x20" at full size.

Click the images to be taken to the print shop page. They are also available in sizes as small as 5"x7".

To close out October, I joined my Dad on a trip to Vancouver. While he attended the writer's conference, I went to Stanley Park and Burnaby Lake Park. I was hoping to see some new birds and other wildlife so I rented a 150-600mm lens for the day. That was a very good move since some of the first birds I saw were bald eagles!

While I was eating lunch, so was this big black squirrel.

Finishing up at Stanley Park, I got a several shots of a cormorant fishing. I was amazed how long they can hold their breathe and stay underwater!

The next day, I went to Burnaby Lake. There were more interesting birds!

Here is a green winged teal. His head looked super fluffy!

Next is the incredibly colorful wood duck. I can certainly see why people mistake the mandarin duck for a wood duck.

Last but not least, there was a heron fishing in the little creek feeding into the lake. It would have been perfect if it flew towards me but all the same I'm very happy with this shot.

Now on to November. I have two upcoming markets later this month. The first is the Holiday Craft Sale in St. Albert at Millar Field House 215 Sturgeon Rd, St. Albert on November 16 from 9:00AM-4:00PM. Second is Silver Bells Winter Market in Sherwood Park at Strathcona County Community Center Agora, 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park on November 23 from 10:00AM-5:00PM and November 24 11:00AM-4:00PM.

Another interesting development is that I am now part of Artesanal in Bonnie Doon. I have a permanent section in the store alongside seven other artists. With Christmas shopping season approaching, I am hopeful that my photos and cards will sell well. If you haven't been to Bonnie Doon recently, it has changed quite a bit and is fairly nice. Currently, I'm there on Sundays from 12-5PM if you want to come for a visit. However, once ski season starts I will be changing to Saturday as I will be at Sunridge on Sundays.

I will try to be more punctual with the December update. Until then, pray for snow!
