There are several things on the go in September for me. I have a few art shows and markets. I also have a few new things coming up that should be exciting and a lot of fun!
First up is the Edmonton Aroid Show Fall Edition on Sept 14, 15 at St. Basil's Cultural Center 10819 71 Ave, Edmonton. What is an "Aroid" I hear you ask. Aroids are a subfamily of flowering plants. Wikipedia has the following to say
"Aroideae is a subfamily of flowering plants in the family Araceae. It is the largest subfamily in Araceae and consists of about 72 different genera, and 2,300 species. Many Aroideae have spiny pollen grains without a sporopollenin outer exine layer and lacking an aperture." (source)
So, I am hopeful that one of my most popular photos will do well there. I will have a large version of this photo framed in 20"x30" for $400. This unique print is not available in my online store since shipping frames is so difficult. That being said if you are interested and live outside Edmonton, I'm sure we can figure something out. I am aware the echinacea is not part of the aroid family. I'm optimistic it won't matter :) I will also have my usual arrangement of 5"x7" greeting cards, 8"x10" prints, coffee mugs, coasters AND I have my 2025 calendar hot off the printing press! Go check it out here and take advantage of the early bird sale and save $5 until the end of September!
This is the cover photo!
At the end of September, I have another market. I will be at the Hazeldean Artisan Market Sept 28, 29, 2024 from 10:30am to 4:00pm each day. Be sure to come Sunday for a free BBQ!
I'm going to be in Hazeldean a lot that week! Following the Artisan Market at the Community League, I'm going to have my work on display at Liberta Coffee Lab from Oct 1-6. I'll share more when I have more details.
Over the last year, I've had the opportunity to photograph two Golden Retrievers several times. Cadence and Copper live in Calgary but they've stayed with us when their owner had business in Edmonton. At first, I was just having fun taking some photos. At the suggestion of their owner, I decided to offer dog photos as a service to everyone. Most recently, I reached out to a few local dog groomers to offer my services since it's a very natural partnership.
I'm hopeful I will be able to work out a "pop-up" style studio at their location to capture the dogs as soon as they're done with the groomers (and before they have a chance to get dirty again!)
Lastly, my fundraising campaign continues to raise money for the Red Cross Jasper Wildfire Relief. The government matching has ended but I will continue to donate 50% of proceeds from sales of Jasper photos (you probably saw a pop-up when you first arrived here).
