Astotin Lake Aurora

Astotin Lake Aurora

I always keep an eye on the aurora forecast. On this particular night in May, the forecast for a major geomagnetic storm was accurate and we got a spectacular show! It's fortunate because the moon and the light from Edmonton in the distance were relatively bright. Where I took this photo, Astotin Lake at Elk Island National Park is one of my favorite spots for star gazing even if it isn't the darkest.

This photo is the first time I tried a panorama at night. I'm keen to try it again. If you would like to try your hand at taking a similar photo, I have written a guide here.

  • Orders in the Edmonton area can be framed by me prior to delivery for an added cost. Please contact me and we can discuss details. Due to shipping constraints, frames are not available for orders outside Edmonton.
